Six-time Grammy nominee deadmau5, pronounced “dead mouse,” is easily one of the most well-known and well-respectedelectronic music DJs and producers in the world. Before he was deadmau5, Canadian Joel Zimmerman was inspired by computers and 8-bit video games as a teenager. He began using old computer chips and discarded electrical appliances to create his signature sound and music.
Deadmau5 revolutionized the electronic dance music (EDM) genre with a mixture of stylistic musical elements consisting of progressive house, the funk of techno, repetition of trance, and multi-layered trap beats—dynamic, free-style dance moves encouraged. He’s known for the oversized “mau5head” he wears while performing hits like “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff,” “Strobe” and “I Remember,” to name a few.
The specially designed Cubev3 stage was introduced to a crowd of over 70,000 at the 2019 Ultra Music Festival where it changed from 90 degrees into 45 degrees then rotated 360 degrees. With mind-bending content and deadmau5’s custom touch designer system, the Cubev3 comes to life with a semi-transparent look making it the most complex production he has ever showcased.
Every audience seat is excellent for viewing the mesmerizing EDM performer’s onstage visuals. With his pulsating and glowing light show moving in sync with the electronic beats, deadmau5 had September’s sold-out crowd at Austin’s ACL-Live exploding in euphoria with every drop of the beat.
In 2017, deadmau5 launched his own record label, mau5trap, signing artists i_o, monstergetdown and BlackGummy. He also hosts an online music production master class passing along his skills to hopeful would-be DJs.
With or without Cubev3 or the plethora of LEDs that could possibly light up a small town, deadmau5 has become one of the best electronic musicians the genre has seen and the most in-demand live acts in the world.
Deadmau5’s Cubev3 is on tour now and hits Houston November 14-15.
